So....a friend of mine loaned me a disk of HGTV software to experiment with. I thought it would be great to be able to plug in the dimensions of my rooms and play with the colors and arrangement of furniture and fixtures. What I didn't count on was the need to have an Architectural degree to be able to not only use the software, but to understand the manual as well. I quickly learned that no amount of patience on my part was going to get me to the place where I could actually learn to use this software. I couldn't get it to use the actual dimensions of my house, which is probably okay since Jon and I disagree on what those are anyway, however I came pretty close to them but only after many tries and deletions of walls and eventually the entire house. I found that even though I was pretty close to the actual size per scale....according to the software I didn't have enough room to even house a bathtub in the bathroom....which I found rather disturbing since I know the last time I looked in there....there was indeed a bathtub/shower combination. I also learned that my kitchen couldn't possibly house the stove and refrigerator with the cupboards that I know exist in there at this very moment. I have come to the conclusion that either I have the most oddly sized house with fixtures to match or I am incapable of using this software because I do not posses the patience to learn a new language (architecturese) that will help me understand it. Tomorrow the manual goes back to its owner and I will remind myself the next time I see those designers on HGTV work their magic with the computer that they did not do the work themselves, they most certainly must have an architect on the payroll doing all the work for them and they just hit a button and take the credit.
